A Construction & Maintenance Electrician – plans, assembles, connects, installs, repairs, inspects, tests, verifies, and maintains electrical systems in various settings (i.e., residential, commercial, industrial). Electrical systems include heating, lighting, power, communications, security, renewable energy & storage systems. They do complex, difficult work in all kinds of conditions.
Responsibilities
Lay out, assemble, install, repair, maintain, connect or test electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment & wiring systems
Plan proposed installations and install panel boards, switch boxes, pull boxes and other related electrical devices
Measure, cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures that connect panels, boxes, outlets & other related electrical devices
Install brackets, hangers or equipment for supporting electrical equipment
Install or pull electrical conductors
Prepare conductors for splicing of electrical connections, securing said connections, & reinsulating and protecting conductor connections

1800 hours pre-apprenticeship, followed by 8160 hours on-the-job training, supplemented by one 8-week, and two 10-week in-class technical training sessions.
Entrance Requirements
Senior English, math and physics credits from Ontario curriculum
High school transcript or high school diploma (equivalent GED)
Journeyperson Wage Rate
$50.92/Hr (2024 Provincial Average)
