Reinforcing Rodworkers place steel and install materials to reinforce concrete. To do this, they fabricate, handle, sort, cut, bend, rig, place, and tie all materials used to reinforce the concrete, including steel.

Responsibilities

  • Select, cut, bend, position and secure steel bars or wire mesh to reinforce concrete

  • Read blueprints & specifications to lay out work

  • Safely operate tools & equipment

  • Unload materials to access, relocate and/or hoist as needed

  • Direct crane operators with hand signals or radios

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Strong communication, reading, numeracy & strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to interpret blueprints & specifications

  • Very good muscular coordination, agility & balance

  • Willingness to work at various work sites

Apprenticeship Program

4000 hours of on-the-job training, supplemented by one 8-week & one 4-week block of in-class technical training.

Entrance Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma preferred (Grade 10 minimum)

Journeyperson Wage Rate

$46.30/Hr (2023 Provincial Average)
